5 Qualities Of A Bad Mattress

Sleep is so important for our well-being. We can wake up feeling refreshed or lethargic based on the conditions we create for our sleep. There are other factors like stress and diet but many times, our mattresses play a big role in our quality of sleep as well. We would like you to enjoy your sleep and time on your mattress and in this post we share what are the 5 qualities of a bad mattress.

What are the signs of a bad mattress?

1. Body Aches

A good mattress often lasts for eight to ten years. It may even last longer than that. Until you discover a sag in the middle where you place most of your weight. Or if you notice waking up with lower back aches and pains or stiffness. This is normally the first sign for you to look at replacing your mattress because if you put it off, you will only suffer more aches which can cause injury.

2. Dust Mites

Dust mites are on your bed but invisible to your eyes. There are at least 10 million of them feeding on your dead skin cells on any given night. The idea of it is disgusting and it is a good thing that we cannot see them. However, if you still get allergies, asthma, skin rashes or difficulty breathing when you lie down on your mattress, you might be allergic to dust mites and their fecal matter.

To keep the population of dust mites in check it is a good idea to change your sheets weekly and wash them in hot water. Vacuum the surface of your bed and keep the temperature and humidity in your room as low as possible.

Dust mites population increases over the years and if you have not taken any action to control their multiplication, you might want to replace your mattress soon.

3. Cause Snoring

One of the factors that can lead to snoring is the mattress and it’s often overlooked. When your mattress is not supporting your body properly, your airways may come under stress and may lead to the tissues being sunken leading to snoring.

4. Hygiene Problem

Dust mites aren't the only problem that can cause allergy on a mattress. Sometimes, stains develop over time on the mattress and in addition, we may have spilled wine or beverages ourselves. Or we might have dirtied the mattress in other ways and not clean up properly. Although a waterproof mattress protector can help your mattress go a long way, if you never had one from day one, it might be time to get a new bed mattress.

5. Lack of Sleep

You might have slept eight hours and still feel like you have not slept. If it is not a health issue, it could be your mattress. Having too firm or too soft a mattress may cause sleep deprivation. Chronic sleep deprivation can obstruct your body from repairing and restoring itself. Poor sleep causes daytime drowsiness, poor judgement and mood swings.
